Is there a difference between a Super 58 and a custom 58?
Now, there is longstanding drama that still continues about these pickups, due partly to the fact that the super 58s are not clearly differentiated in name to the ‘custom’ super 58s. Most of the debate I discovered on the ibanez forum:
How much does an Alnico Super 58 cost?
You’ll see the original Alnico II Super 58s are about $150.00 a piece. Whereas the Super 58 Customs in the Expressionist are far cheaper, less than $75.00 each.
Are Ibanez Super 58 pickups any good?
Yep, the original Super 58’s made in Japan are very nice, low-output PAF-style humbuckers. The recent Custom Super 58’s that come with a lot of Ibanez’ Chinese made guitars are ok, not bad but not outstanding either. Click to expand… They really are great pickups. Very airy and bouncy tone.
Are there any classic albums with a Super 58?
It’s often forgotten that Ibanez Artists, AS200s (335 style), etc were all the rage in the late 70s/early 80s so it’s very likely you are hearing Super 58s all over some classic albums and shows. Lee Ritenour, Steve Miller, Bob Weir were all endorsers so it’s likely there were Super 58s lurking in some of their Ibanez.
