Which method is used for Dacryocystography?
Dacryocystography (DCG) is a fluoroscopic contrast examination of the nasolacrimal apparatus. The nasolacrimal duct is cannulated enabling iodinated contrast to be instilled into the nasolacrimal system.
What is a Dacryocystogram?
A dacryocystogram is a special x-ray procedure that is done to visualize the lacrimal duct of the eye following the injection of contrast media (x-ray dye) into the duct.
When is a Dacryocystography performed?
Dacryocystography is used to diagnose the condition causing problems with your tear duct. This is a minimally invasive procedure that is performed on an out-patient basis.
Why is Dacryocystography important for evaluation of the eye?
Dacryocystography allows the identification of the obstruction site and, in some cases, the cause of the obstruction of tear flow, which is fundamental to define the type of clinical or surgical conduct.
What is regurgitation test?
Pressure over the lacrimal sac may reveal a mucocele. The flow of mucoid material from the puncta will confirm the presence of a nasolacrimal duct obstruction. This is often called the “regurgitation test” and may be used in adults and children.
What is the nasolacrimal duct?
The nasolacrimal duct (also called the tear duct) carries tears from the lacrimal sac of the eye into the nasal cavity. The duct begins in the eye socket between the maxillary and lacrimal bones, from where it passes downwards and backwards.
What do the lacrimal ducts do?
The lacrimal duct system transmits tears from the surface of the eye to the nasal cavity. Tears enter the duct system at the lacrimal punctae and conduct through canaliculi within the eyelids. The canaliculi drain into the lacrimal sac.
How do you perform Roplas?
ROPLAS (Regurgitation On Pressure over Lacrimal Sac). To perform a correct ROPLAS follow the infraorbital rim to reach up to anterior lacrimal crest and then press just medially and posteriorly so that the sac gets pressed. A negative ROPLAS will many a times not preclude the diagnosis of NLDO.
What does mild regurgitation mean?
Trace regurgitation is a very mild leak of a heart valve, which occurs when a valve does not close tightly, allowing blood to leak backward in your heart. Nearly all of the normal population will have a finding of some trivial or mild degree of regurgitation of one, two or three heart valves on a normal echocardiogram.
What is medial Canthus?
Medial canthus: the medial confluence of upper and lower eyelid margins. Lacrimal sac: collects tears coming from the canaliculi. Can become inflamed—swollen, red, tender—as “dacrocystitis,” especially if the nasolacrimal duct is obstructed.
