What is the FIOS ONT box?
ONT stands for “Optical Network Terminal” (ONT). It’s that bulky box the Verizon technician installs for FiOS Internet, TV, and phone. This device takes the fiber optic signals coming from the Verizon backbone and translates them for use with devices in your house.

Yes, you can plug a computer directly into an ONT. Note that if service is active, the computer will get a public IP address and be fully exposed to the Internet.
How do I connect my router to my ONT?
To connect your router to your internet enabled devices using a wired connection; Using another Ethernet cable, plug one end into any of the LAN ports on your router. Take the other end of the cable and plug this directly into your device. Take one end of an Ethernet Cable and plug this in to the LAN port of your ONT.
Does FIOS ONT go bad?
It could be a bad ONT but it is rare. The trouble is either a bad RF signal on the coax or a bad light reading before it enters the ONT.
How do you troubleshoot an ONT?
Troubleshooting the Optical Network Terminator (ONT)
- Check that the modem’s plug is in and switched on at the mains socket.
- If it is plugged in, unplug from the mains and check that your modem’s power cable is correctly inserted into the power socket underneath the modem.
