What is traditional male circumcision?
In South Africa, traditional male circumcision is practiced by various cultural groups among boys as a rite of passage from childhood to manhood. The AmaXhosa tribe is one of the ethnic groups that practice traditional circumcision as a male initiation rite in the Eastern Cape province.
Why do men get circumcised?

Can a woman get an infection from an uncircumcised man?
In women, trich organisms usually infect the vagina and cervix, urethra, bladder, and glands in the genital area, such as the Bartholin’s and Skene’s glands. In men, infections develop in the urethra or under the foreskin of an uncircumcised penis.
Is it necessary to pull back your foreskin?
Retraction of the foreskin should not be forced. This may cause pain and bleeding and can lead to scarring and adhesions (where skin is stuck to skin). As your son begins to toilet train, teach him how to retract his foreskin, this will get him used to this necessary step during urination.
Do babies feel pain during circumcision?
Newborns do feel pain, but they seem to get through the procedure easier than older children do. In newborns, we numb the penis and perform the procedure in the hospital nursery while the baby is awake. We use a clamp technique, which does have a small risk of bleeding.
