A formative measurement model happens when the measured variables are considered to be the cause of the latent variable.
What are reflective and formative constructs?
Reflective measures are caused by the latent construct, whereas, formative measures cause the latent construct. Misspecification exists when a latent construct has reflective (formative) measures when indeed it should be formative (reflective).
What is difference between formative and reflective model?
In a reflective model, the underlying construct drives the indicators, which have positive and, desirably, high intercorrelations. In a formative model, the indicators do not necessarily share the same theme and hence have no preconceived pattern of intercorrelation.

Can Amos handle formative constructs?
It would be easier to communicate. I don’t think AMOS can handle formative measurement model. As a result, i would rather use partial least squares SEM instead.
