There is! During the quest, you should’ve run into Maurice Jondrelle, who asks to come with you. If you accepted his offer, he’ll want to pray in front of the tree as an alternative to harming the tree. When he does this, a sapling will grow which you can then take back to Danica to complete the quest.
Should you let Maurice Jondrelle join me?
He asks to go along, but it is optional as to whether or not to allow it. He has no armor or weapons, cannot be told to “wait” before a fight, and can be killed. However, if taken along, he has a possible impact on the outcome of the quest.

If you choose to listen to Maurice, he will reveal that he can solve Danica’s problem without resorting to violence against the sacred tree. Agree to let him help and he will walk up to the tree, get down on his knees and pray silently to Kynareth.

How do I revive Maurice Jondrelle?
Use the console command resurrect 1 . Maurice should go back to life, good as new. If Maurice is still not near your vicinity after doing this, he may have been ‘disabled’ from the game. Type enable in the console to remedy this.

What is in Snapleg cave?
It is a small cave, housing several witches and hags. It features a cooking pot, an alchemy lab and an arcane enchanter. Several spiders and a giant one also dwell inside the cave, protecting the witches. Towards the “end” of the cave, there is a hagraven and several random loot chests.
Does the Gildergreen sapling grow?
Your sapling will now grow over the course of 6 in-game months from a tiny bud into a full bloom tree you and the city can be proud of.
