How did 6 Years end?
Dan tells Mel that he doesn’t want to break up but she then asks Dan to look her in the eyes and tell her that he loves her and wants to spend the rest of his life with her. Dan is unable to and instead says he’s sorry. Mel says okay and with that, reality starts to set in that their 6 year relationship is finished.

She becomes pregnant and, aching to escape, starts to slowly poison him. Seeing his weakness, she leaves but is caught in a wolf trap. He nurses her back to health and gives her permission to leave. The film ends as he realizes that she poisoned his tea and that he is dying.
Is the newness movie sad?
Instead, it misses the chance to become an escape, and ends up being a constant reminder that love can be a bummer, totally confusing and heartbreaking and sad at times, and maybe not even worth it at all. In that way, the film stays true to its topic.
