Is Kaladesh based on India?
We wanted to reinvent it as something unique and specific to this new world. Our concept artists started with inspiration from jewelry and found that there was a space we could play in there, to make this aesthetically our own, belonging to this new India-inspired Kaladesh that we were creating.

Why is it called Magic: The Gathering?
The name just seemed too perfect. They went back to the lawyer and asked what they could do to call it Magic. The lawyer told them they needed to add something else unique and “ownable” onto it that allowing them to copyright the name as a whole. That is how “The Gathering” was added.
