Why was haldir at Helm’s Deep?
Last Battle Later on November 23, Haldir led a force of 1,200 skilled Wood elves from Lothlórien to Helm’s Deep, the great fortress of Rohan, having been sent by Lord Elrond of Rivendell and Lady Galadriel. He was there to honor the allegiance made in the Battle of the Last Alliance.

What happens to haldir in the book?
Haldir returns in the next chapter, “Farewell to Lórien”, to help escort the Fellowship out of Lothlórien. This is his last appearance in the Lord of the Rings books. It is important to note that in Tolkien’s books, Haldir does not appear in The Two Towers, nor is his long-term fate mentioned at all.

As Haldir directed Elves to the Keep, he was surrounded and wounded by two Uruks, and died in Aragorn’s arms after slaying one of them.
