Can I camp at Fort Ord?
The Fort Ord Dunes State Park Campground will include 45 RV sites, 43 tent sites and 10 walk-in/bike-in sites, situated around old Army bunkers.
Are dogs allowed at Fort Ord beach?
Dogs on leash are allowed on paved roads only within the park. Dogs are not allowed on the beach at the park.

The Fort Ord National Monument is great for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and watching wildlife in their natural habitat. Trails are open daily from dawn to dusk and run through a range of environments, from grassy hills to coastal shrubland.

Pets are allowed on a six-foot leash at Kemil, Dunbar, Lake View, and Central beaches in the Indiana Dunes National Park (everything east of the State Park). In the Indiana Dunes State Park, pets must be on a leash and are welcome east of the swimming beach (basically east of the pavilion).
Why is Fort Ord abandoned?
Fort Ord is a former United States Army post on Monterey Bay of the Pacific Ocean coast in California, which closed in 1994 due to Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) action. Additional endangered species are found on Fort Ord, including Contra Costa goldfields and the threatened California tiger salamander.
Why is Garrapata State Park closed?
Most of Garrapata State Park has been closed since the 2016 Soberanes Fire. The first 1.25 miles of the Soberanes Canyon Trail has been re-opened, but rest of the trail and the Rocky Ridge Trail are closed indefinitely.

Parking at Garrapata State Park Parking is by the side of California Highway 1. There are pullouts and wide shoulders at many places along the length of the road at Garrapata State Park, generally on the west side of Highway 1.
