Is it legal to fit a towbar yourself?

Do you need a certificate for a tow bar?
However there is no requirement for the towbar to be installed professionally, there is no qualification required under the regulations. Provided the towbar is installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, it is perfectly permissible to fit your own towbar to your car.
How much weight can I tow behind my motorhome?
Motorhomes can generally tow up to 15,000 pounds. Class A and Class C motorhomes will tow the most and class B motorhome will typically only be able to tow up to 5,000 pounds. The more aerodynamic models will tow better and get better mileage.
