Are Boris bikes tracked?
GPS Trial. As of January 2020, TfL will be trialling the use of Global Positioning System (GPS) technology on a number of bikes in the Santander Cycles fleet. GPS enabled bikes will be deployed randomly at docking stations across the cycle hire network.

Why is it called a Boris bike?
The Barclays-sponsored bicycles became known as “Boris Bikes,” although it was Johnson’s predecessor Ken Livingstone who had instigated the scheme. Since February 2015, the scheme has been sponsored by Santander, and the bikes are officially known as Santander Cycles.
Do people steal Boris bikes?
They hover around the payment machines and look at the codes people are given on their receipts to release the Santander Cycles. They then punch in the code at the docks before the legitimate user and cycle off.
